Why should we become life-long learners

This blog is dedicated to topics in science, medicine, and health.

In the past, folklore tradition and, later on, books were the only vehicles through which wisdom was passed from one generation to another. Today, Internet amplifies the collective wisdom of humanity, and this process will be accelerated when most Internet users transition from information consumers into information curators and producers. This blog encourages this transition for the community at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.

By transitioning from passive information consumers to active information curators and producers, we can become life-long learners.

When Harvard Medical School unveiled its revamped curriculum in 2015, the Dean of medical education, Edward Hundert, ascertained that the main goal was to help the medical students become life-long learners. Achieving this goal is critical since by the time the students retire from clinical practice, half of the knowledge taught to them in medical school would turn out to be wrong or irrelevant.

We hope that through this blog the students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine will find their voice and passion to communicate science and innovation to the public at large, and that through this process they will become life-long learners.
